Widow and Destitute Women Welfare Board has been constituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu, vide G.O.(Ms) No.56, SW & WE Dept dated: 02.09.2022, to address the various problems faced by vulnerable women including widows, deserted women, orphan women and spinsters, through formulation of necessary schemes to improve their livelihood status by providing them facilities as education, health, employment, special Self Help Group formation, imparting skill training and to help them to lead a safe and dignified life in the Society.
To remove the various problems faced by Widows, Women abandoned by their husband, Marginalized women, Destitute women, Spinsters etc., in Tamil Nadu and to improve their livelihood such as education, health, employment, setting up of special self-help groups, providing vocational training etc., “Widows and Destitute Women Welfare Board” was formed in 02.09.2022 to ensure their safe and dignified life in the society.
Widows and Destitute Women Welfare Board is functioning with 10 official members and 14 non-official members under the chairmanship of Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department.
The first board meeting was conducted on 16.05.2023 under the chairmanship of Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department.
